Updates Most Foul

A orange/pink cocktail with a sprig of rosemary in it sitting in front of a candle on a table.

I had this cocktail, which I have forgotten the name of, and it was pretty good!

It’s been a while since I posted, so I wanted to just give a general smattering of life updates. For extra fun, this post is being written on my “brand new” Alphasmart Neo 2, the very latest in early-2000s technology.

Over the past handful of weeks I’ve:

  • Cleaned out a bunch of stuff from my apartment, and have more ready to be donated as soon as I can drive it over to an appropriate charity.
  • As part of that, excavated my weight set. Did my first workout of the month today, and boy is it easier to lift weights when the space around the rack is clear.
  • Weeded my collared shirts, jackets, and other things I had hanging in my closet. Made easier and more depressing by several of them not fitting.
  • Applied for a whole passel of jobs, including jobs at UW and the Seattle Public Library that I’m letting myself be lightly hopeful for.
  • Struggled with depression, which had the effect of me doing less than I wanted each day. But I did play a lot of video games as a consequence? Which is not necessarily great, but is at least more productive than staring at the ceiling.
  • Ran aground on my attempted readthrough of Plato’s The Republic, but started in on Star Wars: Heir to the Empire by Timothy Zahn and Ancillary Mercy by Ann Leckie (the latter as an audiobook). Both are very enjoyable so far!
  • Changed tacks on my infosec learning, switching from studying for CompTIA’s Security+ certificate to doing a more holistic and practical course. At least for now it’ll be easier to maintain my interest if I’m learning actual skills rather than just memorizing huge piles of terms.
  • Started getting my bike set up so I can ride it around the city more easily. I’ve built some fenders, and once I finish attaching those and getting my milk crate bike basket together I’ll be much better equipped to zip around the city. It’ll be a veritable paradise of being able to carry groceries and not getting street water in my mouth. Now I just need to order a better helmet, because mine is ancient and beat to shit. The core foam shell is fine, but that’s pretty much all that’s left, with pads, plastic covering, etc all falling off over the years.

There’s surely more I’ve forgotten to add, but that’s probably a decent enough summary for now. I hope the last few weeks have treated you all well. <3
